Friday Finds

Every Friday I take time to sit down with my iced coffee “decaf, thanks to baby #2 😉 ” and rummage through my favorite blogs, designer’s websites and online markets for whimsical & fanciful finds that are only discovered by digging in deep for jewels amongst the clutter.

Today’s Friday Find…  this Luxurious Turkish Tea set for six. I adore the quaint size and jubilant colors.

Easy DIY Holiday Decor

With the holidays upon us, we love nothing more than to create an inviting and cozy place to call home. Holiday decor gives your home a sense of family, celebration and good spirit. As the holidays call for delicious spreads, travel, gifts and more… holidays are not only a time of the year we look forward to but it can also thin out your wallet.

There are millions of DIY projects out there, but from someone who takes on the challenge quite a bit, it can be just as expensive as buying new merchandise and even more exhausting. I’ve listed a few DIY holiday decor ideas that really only use 3-4 items and all can be bought at your local Micheal’s, Jo-Ann fabrics or even existing items you may already have lying around your home.

Using brass tacks and any candle in any color, create your own pattern!

You can buy these apothecary bottles on Etsy or find at any vintage store very cheap.

The wheat can be purchased from any Michaels, Jo-Ann fabrics or any craft store for that matter.

The pinecones and juniper can be found probably in your own backyard. Can’t find Juniper?

use evergreen from your Christmas tree. It’s a great way to bring in the fresh smell of winter

Baby it’s cold outside…

As the temps have dropped outside, a toasty fire flickering in the family room is a must have! The mantle seems to always steel the thunder by decking it up with frames, candles & garland… but what about the actual fireplace? Ditch that outdated gold  generic screen or the non-functional doors that jam every time. Spruce up your fireplace this season and give it a whole new look. Always use a metal mesh screen with fireplaces, but you don’t have to settle for an unattractive screen or a “one size fits all” screen; newer styles offer many finishes, designs, and sizes to fit your fireplace, your living area and your taste.

Keep Calm and Give Thanks

ThanksgivingYour menu is set, shopping trips to the market are done and the house is somewhat in order, ready for a household full of family, warmth and smells of turkey and green bean casserole wafting from the oven. As important as the feast is, having a beautifully decorated table to sit down at, ranks pretty high for most.

Although it is the week of Thanksgiving, don’t be alarmed that you don’t have your table decor figured out. In a nation where Christmas decorations have gobbled up most retail space, this is the perfect time to get all your decor needs and at a fraction of the price. You don’t need to overdo the decor, but a few pieces are essential to Bed Bath & Beyond Dinnerwaremaking a nice tablescape. I’ve done some searching and have found a few retailers that still have quite a lot of Thanksgiving inventory and at slashed prices…and you only have to go to one or two places to get it all!

pier one champagne glassLets first start with dinnerware, since your fabulous spread will be the focal point of the evening, having a seasonal dinnerware will set the ambiance. I’ve found this delicate dotted scalloped dinnerware from Bed Bath & Beyond that has a subtle golden edging to it. An accompanying statement champagne glass is always a “wow factor” with holiday tablescapes. Champagne makes any dinner feel special, so give your guests a dazzling flute to toast all their thanks with. This golden crackled flute from Pier One Imports, is stunning!

Another staple for any holiday dinner are your table linens. Now we all know how expensive linens can be, so why not use your typical burlap runnerwhite linen table-cloth but run a burlap runner down the center! Going to any fabric store to buy material for a table runner as oppose to purchasing a new 84″ tablecloth, will save you quite a lot of Burlap with white polk-a-dotsmoney. In most cases fabric stores will already have burlap runners pre-cut and packaged. Burlap has become a very trendy accessory but changing it up a bit by tying the hanging ends with some twine or paint polk-a-dots with a window marker can really spice up your look. This gives it a fresh twist to all of the rustic tablescapes we’ve seen.

Once you have your basics for a functional dinner, it’s time to dress it up… ACCESSORIES! With leaving some space for your dishes we need to add a few embellishments to compliment your dinnerware. Stay within the thanksgiving layoutsame color pallet as your dinner and stemware.  I’ve found these adorable napkin rings, pumpkin wire votives, fall leaf serving platter and fall foliage all from Pier One acornsImports, all of which are on sale! I found a picture of these eye-catching glitter acorns, sprinkling these around your decor will be like the cherry on top. They are not available from any retail store ,that I can find, but a can of spray glue and glitter can change any ordinary pine cone, acorn or leaf into a dazzling accessory like these inspiring acorns!,default,pd.html?cgid=barware_stemware,default,pd.html?cgid=fall,default,pd.html?cgid=fall
